Transform CO₂ Emissions into Valuable Resources
At Queen’s University Belfast, we are developing Integrated CO₂ Capture and Utilisation (ICCU) technology to tackle the global challenge of industrial carbon emissions.

The Problem
The Challenges of Carbon Emissions
Industries like cement, steel, and power generation release massive amounts of CO₂ emissions, contributing to climate change and increasing carbon compliance costs. Traditional carbon capture methods are often expensive, energy-intensive, and difficult to scale, making adoption a challenge. Without a cost-effective solution, industries struggle to meet stricter environmental regulations while maintaining profitability.
High carbon taxes & compliance costs
Expensive & inefficient carbon capture
Difficult to scale for industries
No revenue from captured CO₂
Our Solution
A Smarter way to capture and Utilise CO₂
ICCU technology is being developed to explore a more efficient, scalable, and cost-effective way to capture and utilise CO₂ emissions. Unlike traditional methods, ICCU combines CO₂ capture and conversion into one process, using Dual-Function Materials (DFM) to simplify operations and reduce costs.
As a research team, we are exploring industry needs, refining the technology, and assessing its real-world potential. Our goal is to understand how ICCU could help industries reduce carbon compliance costs while creating valuable by-products.

Lower Carbon Costs
ICCU technology has the potential to lower emissions-related expenses, helping industries meet environmental regulations more cost-effectively.

Scalable and Efficient
We are exploring a simpler, more adaptable carbon capture process that could be scaled to different industries while reducing energy demands.

Turning CO₂ Into Value
Instead of just storing CO₂, ICCU research focuses on converting emissions into useful by-products, creating opportunities for sustainability and profitability
